Outreach

Living to Serve God and One Another with Love.

The Othello Christian Church supports many outreach programs throughout the year. Contact Janet Larson at 488.1236 for more details.

OCC is working with the ministerial association to develop a "Crutches from Christ" program. The aim is to create a collection of  supplies such as crutches, wheelchairs, canes and walkers to loan out so individuals don't have to purchase these types of items for short term use.

The first Sunday of each month is designated "food bank" Sunday.  Food and financial donations are collected and distributed to the local food bank. In April, all donations are matched by a government grant program.

Members of our Outreach group put together "Layette" gift pouches. They contain diapers, sleepers, baby blanket, bottle and other health supplies such as lotion, powder or shampoo. These kits are given out at the Othello Community Hospital to each new mother. Members of OCC donate all the items and assemble them several times throughout the year. We estimate that OCC delivers about 380 kits per year.

Othello Christian Church youth participated in the "Souper Bowl of Caring" 2008. They beat last year's numbers by setting a higher goal this year. The youth enjoyed shopping for the food bank as a group.

Campbell soup UPC barcodes are collected and forwarded to Woodhaven. They have been used to purchase vans to transport the disabled in the past. Barcodes are now being used to purchase other supplies. In 2004 Woodhaven was able to purchase craft supplies, games, a karaoke machine and 7 computers. In 2005 they got a video and data projector for staff training and viewing movies. And in 2006 they were able to obtain 5 laptop computers to be used during home visits. We continue to support disaster relief through Church World Services and Week of Compassion Campaigns.

2006 theme: When was it that we saw you...thirsty? -Matthew 25:37

The blanket used in this display is one of the wool blankets Church World Services purchases with funds raised during "Blanket Sunday".

In 2007 the theme was "Who Is My Neighbor?" A world map was displayed on the blanket and over one hundred Houses, Teepees, Apartments, Igloos and Castles were used to represent each donation.

The women's "Grateful Bunch Bible Study" meet periodically  through out the year. Generally the second Wednesday of each month.

Health Kits are supplied to the Othello School District to be distributed to those in need.

Othello Christian Church collects used eye glasses that are donated to the Lyons club.

School supplies for children in Othello are being collected and distributed for the 2008-2009 school year.

Aluminum can funds are donated to camp Zephyr in Liberty Lake, WA.

Othello Christian Church members have been collecting donations for "Disaster Relief Kits" to be sent to victims of natural disasters to provide essential health supplies not readily available.

OCC collected items for their annual Christmas gift basket to be presented to a local family. In 2007 they helped a family with five children ages 3 to 13 enjoy the Christmas season.

Members of OCC select Christmas gifts for the residents of Avalon Senior Center each year. Names and wish lists are available to the public in November.
